Dear Kim Possible
Kim Possible is, for the uninitiated, the main character from the 2002 Disney animated TV classic, Kim Possible. In the show, Kim lives a double life as the world’s #1 superspy and a normal high school student. As a kid, I had a giant crush on Kim. I didn’t know it was a crush at the time, but in hindsight, it seems pretty obvious. I was talking to a bunch of my queer female friends and Every. Single. One. Of. Them. had a crush on Kim Possible growing up. It seemed like such a common experience that I felt like it needed a song. Dear Kim Possible is from the perspective of young Mirabai and it’s chock full of references to the show’s theme song - I’m your basic average girl... call me, beep me if you wanna reach me, etc. It’s a song about being a queer child - knowing in your soul but not being able to get it through your head and feeling a little bit guilty about the feelings that you can’t quite articulate.
